Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony

This year Cornell is starting a new tradition: The PhD Hooding Ceremony.

The Dean and the Graduate School are excited for Cornell to start the tradition of a formal hooding ceremony for those achieving their PhD. Although some departments have in the past individually offered this ceremony, the University and Graduate School as a whole have not. Beginning this year, that changes.

As part of the PhD recognition event on Saturday May 28, Dean Knuth and Provost Fuchs will formally place the hood across the PhD recipient’s shoulders.

Please join for what is sure to be a memorable tradition for graduates and their families!  To RSVP , click HERE.

Student Elected Trustee Elections: 4/27/11 – 4/29/11

Each year, a student is elected to serve as a “student-elected trustee” to Cornell’s Board of Trustees.  Our Board of Trustees has 2 student seats, one for an undergraduate student, the other for a graduate/professional student.  Currently, Darrick Nighthawk Evensen serves as the graduate student-elected trustee.  Recently Nighthawk wrote an article in the Cornell Daily Sun explaining the role of the Board of Trustees and the student-elected trustee.  Both student-elected trustees represent ALL students.  Each Spring, elections alternate between undergraduate and graduate students.  This Spring, elections are held for the undergraduate seat.  ALL students (both undergraduate and graduate) vote for the student-elected trustee.

Elections will be held from Wednesday, April 27th to Friday, April 29th. You will receive an email from the Office of Assemblies inviting you to vote.   Profiles for each candidate running can be found HERE.
